CARES Act Funding Should Support Pennsylvanians Impacted by Pandemic

By House Appropriations Committee Staff , | 4 years ago

Through the CARES Act, Pennsylvania received $3.9 billion in Coronavirus Relief Funds to address critical needs within the commonwealth.

The General Assembly worked with Governor Tom Wolf throughout the spring and summer to appropriate and distribute $2.6 billion of those dollars to nursing homes, health care and human service providers, schools and childcare, county governments, small businesses, hazard pay for frontline workers and rent/mortgage relief.

That leaves over $1 billion to be appropriated before December 1, 2020 -- otherwise the remaining funds will automatically be distributed to only 60 counties cutting nearly half of the citizens of this commonwealth out of additional support.

House Democrats believe we have a basic duty to support Pennsylvanians through the crisis, and have introduced more than a dozen bills to address the urgent needs of those suffering the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
